permanent situations or states
 She works as a nurse. She owns a large shop,
in exclamatory sentences
 Here she comes ! (not Here she is coming !)
repeated / habitual actions (especially with frequency adverbs: often, usually, always etc)
 I always get up at 7.30. {Here always means every day.)
permanent truths or laws of nature
 Money doesn't buy happiness.
 Water freezes at O°C.
Timetables / prog rammes (future meaning)
 The match finishes at 7.45.
 The plane leaves at 6.05.
reviews/sports commentaries/ dramatic narrative
 Meryl Streep acts brilliantly in this film.

actions happening at or around the moment of speaking
 She is looking for a betterjob.
repeated actions with always, constantly, continually expressing annoyance or criticism
 She's always lying! (Here always means constantly )
If something is always happening , it happens often , but is unplanned.
I’m always losing my keys.
Compare:
When Alice comes , I always meet her at the station.( planned meetings )
I ‘m always meeting Alan Forbesin the supermarket. ( unplanned )
temporary situations
 They're staying at the Park Hotel at present
fixed arrangements in the near future
 The Browns are visiting us tonight. (It's all arranged.)
changing or developing situations
 His English is getting better.
Some verbs have progressive forms with one meaning but not with another .The following don’t usually have progressive forms:
Have ( = posses ) , appear ( = seem ) , look ( = seem ) , see ( = understand ) , think ( = have the opinion that ) , Feel ( = have the opinion that )
